EU Blocks EU Transactions with HTX Starting August 23
The European Union has added HTX to its sanctions list, prohibiting EU citizens and entities from transacting with the platform starting August 23. This move is part of the EU's 21st sanctions package, adopted on July 24, targeting 18 crypto and payment service providers allegedly helping Russia circumvent financial restrictions.
The ban covers a roughly 30-day wind-down period, giving European users about a month to remove their funds from HTX. The exchange can still operate but not with anyone under EU jurisdiction.
HTX has reported $3.3 trillion in trading volume throughout 2025 and has undergone significant changes since its founding in China in 2013 as Huobi. It rebranded to HTX in September 2023 after Justin Sun acquired a stake in the operation in 2022.
