EU Crypto Firms Face Exit as MiCA Licensing Chaos Hits

Share

The European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) has led to significant changes in how crypto exchanges operate within the bloc.

One of the key requirements is that any platform serving EU customers must hold a bloc-wide ESMA license. The July 1 deadline for compliance saw only 323 firms secure approval, leaving an estimated 1,700 providers unlicensed.

This has forced thousands of crypto companies to withdraw or relocate services from the EU, creating custody and security risks for users and DeFi participants. Fraudsters are exploiting exchange migrations by sending fake notices and impersonation schemes, making it crucial for customers and exchanges to verify migration requests through official channels.
