EU Crypto Market Restructures as MiCA Rules Take Hold
The European Union's (EU) crypto market has entered a new phase as MiCA's transition period came to an end on July 1, 2026. With this change, only authorized Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASP) can now provide regulated crypto services across the EU.
There are currently 321 authorized CASPs listed in the ESMA registry, while 167 providers have been blacklisted due to non-compliance with MiCA regulations. If a user's exchange is not on this list, it will likely go into withdrawal-only mode before exiting the EU market entirely.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has warned that using unregulated crypto platforms can put users at risk of losing their assets due to lack of investor protections. MiCA regulations aim to provide a safer environment for investors by safeguarding client assets and imposing stricter requirements on exchanges.
