EU Crypto Scam Surge Triggers Regulatory Warning

Crypto impersonation scams are on the rise in the EU, thanks to the new Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

Regulators have warned that bad actors are taking advantage of the changes by impersonating authorities and companies to trick victims into transferring assets to fraudulent wallets.

With more than 1,700 unlicensed firms expected to cease operations, scammers see an opportunity in the chaos created by users moving their assets from unlicensed exchanges to licensed providers.

Crypto holders have been urged to stay vigilant and verify any communication requesting asset transfers, ensuring that the service provider is listed as authorized under MiCA before making a move.
