EU MiCA Regulation Forces 1700 Crypto Platforms Offline

Share

The European Union's (EU) MiCA crypto regulation has led to the shutdown of over 1,700 unlicensed cryptocurrency platforms since its enforcement began.

This move is a direct consequence of the regulation's licensing regime, which took effect on July 1, 2026, and requires platforms to obtain authorization to operate in the EU.

Regulators estimate that up to 10 million users may need to transfer their holdings from now-defunct platforms to firms with valid MiCA authorization.
