EU Regulators Warn of Surge in Crypto Impersonation Scams Amid MiCA Framework

European regulators are warning cryptocurrency users about a surge in impersonation scams as bad actors try to capitalize on the EU's new Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.

The MiCA license is now required for crypto firms operating in the EU, and over 1,700 unlicensed companies are expected to cease operations. Even major players like Binance have failed to receive an EU-wide license.

As a result, investors who had assets on unlicensed exchanges were forced to move them to licensed providers, creating new opportunities for scammers. These bad actors are targeting uninitiated crypto users through phishing attacks and other impersonation schemes.

Crypto holders are advised to independently verify any communication requesting asset transfers and to confirm that a service provider is listed as authorized before moving funds.
