EU Reopens MiCA Regulation for Review Amid Stablecoin Hopes
The European Commission has reopened the MiCA regulation for review, less than two years after its introduction in December 2024. The Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) was meant to provide a single rulebook for issuers and service providers across the EU.
A targeted consultation on the review of MiCA is currently ongoing, with responses accepted until September 30, 2026. The questionnaire covers various aspects of the regulation, including the interest ban on stablecoins, staking rules, and crypto lending.
The Commission's primary goal is to assess whether administrative burdens arising from MiCA can be simplified or removed altogether. However, no changes have been decided upon yet, as this is a gathering of opinions. The review is not spontaneous, but rather mandated by Articles 140 and 142 of the regulation itself.
