EU Slams Russia with New Sanctions Package
The European Union has adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia in response to its military aggression against Ukraine. The new measures include harsh economic sanctions targeting key sectors such as energy, finance, and cryptocurrency.
According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, the package includes 'the highest number of listings in four years' with 218 individuals and entities targeted, including 94 banks and major financial institutions.
The measures also expand action against Russia's financial and banking sector by imposing asset freezes and a prohibition on making funds available to listed entities. Additionally, the EU is introducing a transaction ban against 33 additional Russian credit and financial institutions.
