EU Targets 218 Entities in 21st Sanctions Package Against Russia
The European Union has adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia, targeting the energy, financial services, crypto, and trade sectors in a single round of 218 listings.
The package includes the largest batch of listings in four years, with 48 individuals and 170 entities designated for their involvement in Russian sanctions evasion.
One of the key changes is the extension of transaction bans to platforms in third countries, which will now be banned from facilitating Russian sanctions evasion.
This means that entire jurisdictions can now be targeted, not just individual platforms, and that firms must understand their exposure not only to designated platforms but also to the jurisdictions that host them.
