EU Targets Justin Sun's HTX Cryptocurrency Exchange Under New Russian Sanctions
The European Union (EU) has added HTX, a major cryptocurrency exchange owned by Justin Sun, to its list of entities under new Russian sanctions. This move is aimed at disrupting financial networks suspected of helping Russia evade existing sanctions.
The EU announced the measures on Thursday and made them public on Friday. HTX was previously known as Huobi and has been one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges since 2013. The exchange is now one of 18 crypto service providers named in the Russian sanctions package, which also includes banks, oil traders, and energy revenue channels associated with Russia's war efforts.
HTX was previously targeted by the UK, which listed it under a May sanctions package targeting shadow financial systems involved in Russia's war economy. However, unlike the UK sanctions, the EU's action does not amount to a full designation or asset freeze for HTX.
