EU Unveils Crypto Ban on Third Countries Amid Sanctions Evasion Fears
The European Union has implemented a new sanctioning tool that allows it to ban entire foreign jurisdictions from carrying out cryptocurrency transactions in Europe. This measure is part of the EU's 21st sanction package, adopted on July 23, and targets countries like Georgia, Panama, and the UAE.
The 'full third-country ban for crypto-asset services' gives Brussels the authority to stop EU companies transacting with crypto businesses that help Russia evade sanctions. This new measure is not a restriction but a deterrent, allowing the EU to take action without immediately enforcing it.
Sixteen businesses from these countries have been added to the EU's transaction prohibition list, and Russian nationals are no longer allowed to own or manage cryptocurrency-related businesses.
