Euro Edges Higher Ahead of Germany's Inflation Data
The Euro edged higher to near 1.1600 on Monday ahead of Germany's preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data release, a key indicator for monetary policy decisions in Europe.
Despite hawkish remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh over the weekend, the US Dollar declined against the Euro, allowing the shared currency to gain strength. Warsh emphasized that policymakers will need to take action if they are not confident that cost-of-living pressures are easing for Americans, indicating a possible rate hike in September.
The European Central Bank (ECB) is also expected to tighten monetary policy soon, with Governing Council member Isabel Schnabel recently flagging upside risks to inflation from energy prices and growth. Analysts at Scotiabank note that this week's data will confirm the need for renewed hawkishness from the ECB.
