Evernorth's XRP Treasury Faces Redemption Crunch Before Nasdaq Listing
Evernorth, a digital asset treasury company built to hold XRP, is facing a critical juncture before its planned listing on Nasdaq. The company has assembled $1 billion in commitments at an average cost of $2.54 per token, but the current market price of XRP is around $1.10.
This means that Evernorth's position is already underwater by more than 50%, according to its disclosed accumulation of roughly 473 million XRP. The company has recorded a substantial impairment in its accounts reflecting the decline, which makes the loss not just theoretical but real.
The key decision point is the redemption right held by SPAC shareholders, who can choose between accepting equity in the combined company or taking their cash back at trust value. Given that the token's issuer, Ripple, has contributed approximately 127 million XRP to the position, it remains to be seen whether shareholders will take the risk of holding onto shares in a vehicle marked at a deep loss.
A treasury vehicle's entire proposition is scale, and if Evernorth lists with a fraction of its intended cash, it will arrive with a position that cannot grow, a thin float that discourages institutional participation, and no credible path to accretive issuance. The premium problem compounds this, as the company must convince the market to pay a premium for a wrapper around a losing position at a time when premiums are declining across the sector.
