Ex-Central Bankers Take Helm at Blockchain Settlement Company
Fnality, the blockchain-based settlement company behind the UK's regulated sterling payment system, has appointed experienced central bank officials to lead its governance. The latest move puts former Bank of England deputy governor Jon Cunliffe at the head of Fnality's UK board.
Jochen Metzger, formerly a Deutsche Bundesbank director general for payments and settlement systems, is joining the supervisory board of Fnality's European subsidiary and is expected to chair it. Ron Berndsen, previously a senior official at the Dutch central bank, also joined the board.
Fnality's leadership appointments signal a deliberate strategy: pairing its distributed-ledger settlement approach with deep familiarity of central bank payment and market infrastructure. Cunliffe's role is particularly notable given the Bank of England's regulatory oversight of Fnality's sterling payment system.
