Ex-FBI Supervisor Accused of Stealing Nearly $1 Million in Cryptocurrency
A former FBI counterintelligence supervisor in Washington has been accused of stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from a foreign criminal case and transferring it to his own digital wallet.
The investigation, which was made possible by blockchain technology, revealed that Patrick Yaroch had illicitly withdrawn between 10 and 12 transactions in cryptocurrencies from the overseas target between late 2024 and early 2025.
Yaroch's wallet contained $1 million worth of cryptocurrency, and investigators were able to track the money trail through blockchain logs and data from the wallets.
The case comes amid a growing trend of crypto-related crimes in the US, with the FBI IC3 report showing 181,565 cryptocurrency-related complaints made in 2025, resulting in reported losses of $11.36 billion.
