Exchange Shutdowns Spark Hopes for Bear Market Bottom

Several prominent cryptocurrency exchanges have announced shutdowns in recent days, sparking concerns about the future of the market. However, some industry participants believe that these exchange shutdowns may be a sign that the bear market is ending.

The first exchange to announce its closure was BitMEX, which will cease operations on September 23. This comes after new account registrations were disabled and users are strongly encouraged to close open positions and withdraw their funds as soon as possible.

BitMart is also shutting down, with all trading services discontinued on August 26 and the official shutdown scheduled for January 31, 2027. Other affected exchanges include Odos, Dango, and Storj Labs, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Ran Neuner believes that we are in the last stages of the market's consolidation phase, where the fittest survive. He predicts that the next phase will be dominated by licensed exchanges and institutional capital.

However, not everyone is convinced that exchange shutdowns signal a bottom for the market. X user Klarck expects a cycle bottom at around $40,000-$45,000 by October-November, while others believe the bears will dominate the entire summer before easing off in the autumn.
