Exelon Secures Over $1B in Customer Protections Amid AI-Driven Demand
Exelon Corporation (EXC) has strengthened its grid cost protection measures as demand for AI power and data centers continues to rise. The company has secured over $1 billion in customer protections through expanded Transmission Security Agreements (TSAs), which require large new power users to cover transmission costs instead of passing them on to households and small businesses.
This milestone is part of Exelon's Exelon Promise initiative, aimed at keeping electricity affordable by ensuring that major electricity consumers commit financially before connecting to the grid. This framework allows transmission expansion to better reflect verified electricity demand, reducing uncertainty for utilities while supporting efficient grid expansion.
The agreements also strengthen long-term infrastructure planning across Exelon's regulated service territories. As AI-driven electricity demand reshapes grid planning, Exelon's approach addresses the challenge of allocating transmission-related expenses fairly among customers responsible for creating additional demand.
