ExfilSquad Ransomware Group Hacks UK Government Departments
A new ransomware group called ExfilSquad has hacked into government departments in the UK, including the Ministry of Defence and the National Crime Agency, stealing data from over 100,000 staff.
The leaked information includes full names, email addresses, area of work details, and more for police officers listed on the Police National Legal Database (PNLD), which has over 114,000 subscribers, mostly law enforcement personnel.
In addition to PNLD data, ExfilSquad also obtained sensitive information from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the Home Office, and Microsoft. The group claims to have hacked into 15 firms and government bodies worldwide.
The hacker group is demanding a ransom in cryptocurrency, which can be easily laundered through mixers and unregulated exchanges.
