Facebook and YouTube Dominate Crypto Information Journey for Filipinos
As cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow in Southeast Asia, understanding how users discover and evaluate information has become increasingly important. A recent report from Echobit Labs sheds light on the information journey of Filipino crypto users, revealing the distinct roles played by various social platforms.
The report found that Facebook functions as more than a social media platform in the Philippines, with an estimated advertising reach of 95.8 million users by the end of 2025. This makes Facebook a potential foundation for content distribution, community building, and local trust-building for crypto companies.
Facebook Groups may be particularly relevant to the Philippine crypto ecosystem, as users can enter crypto communities through social recommendation networks. However, this also increases the importance of security education, as scams and phishing links can spread quickly through these networks.
The report suggests that YouTube serves a different role: explanation and education. With approximately 59.6 million users reached through advertising, YouTube provides a space for longer-form content explaining trading strategies and market developments.
