Fairshake Crypto PAC Wins Big, Loses Key Race in Florida
The crypto industry's top political action committee, Fairshake, had a mixed night in Tuesday's primary elections. Despite spending over $2 million to try and defeat Democrat Oliver Gilbert in Florida's 24th congressional district, Fairshake lost the race.
Gilbert won with 34.4% of the vote, despite being targeted by negative ads from Protect Progress, Fairshake's affiliate PAC. The ads drew controversy for including fake Miami Herald headlines that misrepresented Gilbert's policy positions.
However, Fairshake did win four other races across Florida, Alaska, and Wyoming, with its affiliated groups spending around $3.6 million in support of the winners.
The results matter beyond individual races, as they could impact the future of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which is set to be taken up by the US Senate when it returns from recess in September.
