FBI Agent Accused Of Stealing $1 Million In Crypto From Russia

Share

A former FBI employee, Patrick Steven Yaroch, has been arrested and fired after being accused of stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from wallets monitored during a national security investigation. The alleged theft occurred between late 2024 and 2026, with Yaroch allegedly transferring funds to his personal wallet using information obtained through FBI systems.

According to court documents, Yaroch worked on national security and counterintelligence matters, holding a top-secret security clearance. He was assigned to an FBI national security investigative squad in Boston that was investigating an individual from Russia, which the US considers an 'adversarial nation'. The investigation alleges that Yaroch transferred around $1 million in cryptocurrency through 10-12 transactions.

During a search of his home, agents seized over $925,000 from his cryptocurrency wallets and accounts. Investigators also found evidence that Yaroch had asked ChatGPT about relocating overseas with $1 million and had booked flights for himself and his family to travel to Portugal in September. He was charged with interstate transportation of stolen goods, securities, and monies.
