FBI Agent Accused of Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency
A shocking case of alleged cryptocurrency theft has come to light involving an FBI agent in Washington, D.C. Patrick Yaroch, a supervisory agent at the FBI, is accused of taking around $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital accounts tied to a suspect in an overseas criminal investigation.
According to court documents obtained by the Wall Street Journal, Yaroch came forward last week to confess to the alleged crime. He reportedly told a Department of Justice employee that the situation was 'eating him up inside' and wanted to get it 'off his chest.'
The affidavit states that Yaroch allegedly made 10-12 withdrawals using passcodes for the suspect's accounts, which were gathered during the FBI investigation. The agent has not been charged with stealing the cryptocurrency, but the documents list the charge as interstate transfer of stolen goods.
