FBI Agent Accused of Stealing $1M in Cryptocurrency

An FBI agent who was tasked with investigating foreign threats has been accused of stealing over $1 million in cryptocurrency from an overseas target's accounts. Supervisory counterintelligence agent Patrick Yaroch allegedly used passcodes obtained during the probe to access the crypto stash and made around 10-12 withdrawals between 2024 or 2025.

According to court documents, Yaroch confessed to taking the cryptocurrency and told a Justice Department employee that he was 'eating him up inside' over the bureau's lack of action against 'adversarial' foreign crypto accounts. The adversarial nation in question has not been identified, but sources suggest it is Russia.

Yaroch allegedly became frustrated with the FBI's handling of the situation and decided to take matters into his own hands, using a wallet linked to him that held about $1 million. He claimed he wasn't sure how much was taken because it was mixed with his own assets.
