FBI Agent Accused of Stealing Nearly $1 Million in Cryptocurrency

A former FBI agent has been accused of stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from accounts monitored by the agency. Patrick Steven Yaroch, a member of the FBI's national security investigative squad, allegedly transferred the crypto holdings to his personal account after growing frustrated with what he saw as government inaction over their misuse.

The incident occurred while Yaroch was investigating an 'adversarial nation' and came across the crypto accounts. He reportedly became frustrated when he couldn't do more to disrupt their use, according to a court affidavit.

Yaroch used his internal agency access to transfer the funds, which were valued at over $900,000. The FBI fired him after learning of the allegations and arrested him last week.

A criminal complaint lists charges against Yaroch related to the interstate transport of stolen goods and the receipt of stolen goods. An FBI spokesperson stated that they take such conduct seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation.
