FBI Agent Arrested for Allegedly Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency

Share

A former FBI supervisory special agent has been arrested and charged with allegedly stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital wallets connected to an investigation involving a foreign adversary.

The suspect, Patrick Steven Yaroch, worked in the FBI's Counterintelligence and Espionage Division and had access to sensitive information involving cryptocurrency accounts monitored as part of national security investigations.

According to court records, prosecutors alleged that Yaroch used privileged information obtained through FBI systems to access the wallets and transfer digital assets into accounts under his control. He allegedly completed around 10 to 12 transfers beginning in late 2024 or early 2025, moving cryptocurrency into wallets he controlled.

The investigation began after an internal probe was launched by the FBI, which ultimately led to Yaroch's firing and arrest on July 31, 2026. Authorities recovered devices, a hardware wallet, and handwritten information believed to contain cryptocurrency seed phrases from his home in Ashburn, Virginia.
