An FBI counterintelligence agent has been arrested for allegedly looting up to $1 million in cryptocurrency from 'adversarial' wallets. According to an affidavit, Patrick Yaroch, a supervisory special agent at the Bureau's headquarters in Washington DC, self-reported his actions after feeling guilty.

Yaroch worked on a national security investigative squad focused on an unnamed adversarial nation-state while based in Boston from 2017-2025. He then moved to the Counterintelligence and Espionage Division in DC, where he investigated the same individual associated with the adversarial nation state.

The affidavit states that Yaroch became frustrated with his inability to disrupt this individual's use of crypto, so he accessed FBI systems to transfer money from multiple adversarial wallets to himself. He created a personal crypto wallet on Kraken and conducted 10-12 transfers, amassing approximately $1 million in value.

Yaroch then transferred around $1.02 million from Kraken to Slush, a cross-platform wallet app for Sui (SUI), and used it to place the crypto on a decentralized finance platform called Suilend. He claimed that he chose this service simply because he liked its logo.
