FBI Agent Arrested for Stealing $1 Million in Crypto from Foreign Adversaries
An FBI agent stationed in Ashburn, Virginia, has been arrested and charged with stealing approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency from foreign adversaries' wallets. Patrick Steven Yaroch allegedly used his top-secret security clearance to access sensitive intelligence through bureau systems, obtaining passphrases for the targeted wallets.
The theft occurred between late 2024 and July 28, 2026, when Yaroch confessed to a colleague. He executed 10 to 12 transactions, moving digital assets from foreign adversarial wallets into his own accounts.
A search of Yaroch's residence on August 3, 2026, seized $925,426.07 from his various wallets and accounts, roughly 92.5% of the estimated $1 million he allegedly stole. The incident has raised concerns about internal controls at agencies handling seized digital assets.
