FBI Agent Arrested for Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency from Overseas Accounts

FBI Supervisory Agent Patrick Steven Yaroch has been charged with stealing around $1 million in cryptocurrency from accounts belonging to an overseas suspect under investigation. The funds were allegedly transferred into his own account using his top-secret security clearance, allowing him access to the adversarial accounts.

According to court documents, Yaroch became frustrated that the FBI 'could not or would not act' on the accounts and decided to take matters into his own hands. He initiated 10-12 transfers, totaling around $1 million, between November 2024 and an unknown date.

In a bizarre twist, investigators found searches on Yaroch's phone asking ChatGPT how to invest or spend $1 million to maximize returns, with the agent expressing hopes of retiring in Portugal by age 40. The FBI fired Yaroch on July 31, the same day as his arrest, stating that he has since been terminated due to the serious nature of the allegations.
