FBI Agent Arrested Over Alleged $1 Million Cryptocurrency Heist

A senior FBI agent has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $1 million in cryptocurrency from wallets connected to the bureau's own investigations.

Patrick Steven Yarmoth, who worked at the FBI headquarters in Washington and was involved in counterintelligence, is accused of withdrawing digital assets using his access to Top Secret information.

Court documents link him to a unit that handled cases related to an unnamed hostile state. The agent's access allowed him to obtain cryptographic keys from FBI systems and transfer assets to his own accounts on Kraken and Suilend.

Investigators believe there could have been up to twelve such transfers, with the agent using Slush wallets for access to transactions. His actions highlight the importance of strict oversight of who is allowed to work with keys and wallets, as trusted access itself becomes a weak point if key control is not strict enough.
