FBI Agent Caught Stealing $1M in Crypto Using Internal Systems
A former FBI supervisory agent has been charged with using internal systems to obtain credentials for cryptocurrency wallets linked to an adversarial country. Patrick Steven Yaroch admitted to transferring $1 million in digital assets between late 2024 and early 2025, some of which he deposited into Suilend to earn yield.
Yaroch used internal systems to obtain the credentials, allowing him to transfer funds to his own crypto wallets. He was placed on administrative leave after self-reporting the incident and was later terminated and arrested.
Agents retrieved devices, seed phrases, and a Trezor wallet from Yaroch's Virginia residence to access his accounts on Suilend and crypto exchange Kraken. With his cooperation, they transferred roughly $925,000 in funds to government-controlled wallets.
