FBI Agent Charged with Stealing $1 Million in Cryptocurrency from Russian Targets
A former FBI agent has been charged with stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from Russian targets. Patrick Steven Yaroch, 41, was arrested at his home in Ashburn, Virginia, and taken to the Alexandria Detention Center on July 31, 2026.
The complaint alleges that Yaroch transferred nearly $1 million from cryptocurrency accounts tied to Russia between January 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026. He made as many as 12 transfers totaling approximately $925,426.07.
Yaroch told investigators he became frustrated with the FBI's handling of adversarial accounts and decided to take matters into his own hands. He allegedly used his Top Secret clearance to obtain unauthorized control of the cryptocurrency.
