FBI Agent Charged with Stealing $1M in Crypto from Foreigners
An FBI agent has been charged with stealing around $1 million in cryptocurrency from foreigners under investigation by his own agency.
Patrick Steven Yaroch, a former FBI agent, allegedly used his access to FBI systems to transfer funds from cryptocurrency accounts associated with an 'adversarial nation' to himself.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit filed in Virginia, Yaroch made about 10 transfers totaling around $1 million starting in late 2024 or early 2025.
The agent met with a DOJ employee on July 29 and 'immediately started to break down as he told his story', admitting that he had acted alone and that the shame of his actions was 'eating him up inside.'
