FBI Agent Charged with Stealing Nearly $1 Million in Cryptocurrency
An FBI agent is facing charges after allegedly stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from accounts monitored by his agency.
Patrick Steven Yaroch, a member of the FBI's national security investigative squad, used his internal access to transfer the crypto holdings to his personal account, according to court records.
The agent claimed he became frustrated with government inaction over the misuse of crypto accounts and wanted to disrupt an unnamed person's use of them. However, this alleged frustration turned into theft when he transferred the funds without authorization.
The FBI fired Yaroch after learning about his actions and arrested him last week on charges related to the interstate transport of stolen goods and receipt of stolen goods.
