FBI Agent Charged with Stealing Nearly $1M in Crypto from Russia
FBI agent Patrick Yaroch has been charged with stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from Russia. The funds were transferred into his personal wallet, and he reportedly made around a dozen transfers.
According to court documents, Yaroch became frustrated with the FBI's inability or unwillingness to act against Russian cryptocurrency accounts during an investigation. He allegedly said he was upset that he couldn't do more to disrupt their use.
The FBI supervisor, detailed to the U.S. intelligence community, confessed to the crimes and handed over his credentials and wallet details when his home was searched. The total value of the transferred funds was approximately $925,426.07.
The bureau immediately took action after becoming aware of the allegations and fired Yaroch from the Bureau. A thorough investigation is underway, but no further comment will be made due to the ongoing nature of the matter.
