FBI Agent Accused of Stealing $1M in Cryptocurrency

A supervisory counterintelligence agent at the FBI has been accused of stealing approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency from accounts tied to an overseas target in a US investigation.

The agent, Patrick Yaroch, reportedly gained access to the crypto stash using passcodes obtained during the probe and made 10-12 withdrawals between 2024 or 2025.

Yaroch allegedly confessed to the conduct last week, stating it was 'eating him up inside' due to frustration with the bureau's handling of foreign crypto accounts, which he believed were being used illicitly. He claimed he was upset that the FBI wouldn't take action against these accounts and felt he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands.

The adversarial nation in question has not been identified, but sources suggest it may be Russia. Yaroch's actions have led to him being fired from the FBI and charged with interstate transfer of stolen goods; however, he has yet to be charged with theft of cryptocurrency.
