FBI Agent Indicted for Stealing $1 Million in Crypto from Seized Wallets
A former FBI supervisory special agent has been indicted on charges of siphoning off about $1 million in cryptocurrency assets. Patrick Steven Yaroch, who worked in the FBI's counterintelligence and espionage unit from early 2025 to July 2026, used access information for cryptocurrency wallets obtained during investigations.
Prosecutors believe Yaroch moved funds from these wallets to accounts he controlled. He held Top Secret security clearance at the time. Investigators found that Yaroch checked the seed phrase, or recovery phrase, for a cryptocurrency wallet obtained in an investigation linked to a foreign hostile power through FBI systems.
Yaroch is reported to have stated during the investigation that the amount of cryptocurrency assets he moved grew over time to about $1 million. Authorities also found a Trezor hardware wallet and handwritten cryptocurrency seed phrases on his property.
