FBI Agent Steals $1 Million in Cryptocurrency, Cites Frustration with Agency
A shocking revelation has emerged from within the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as one of its agents, Patrick Yaroch, admitted to stealing approximately $1 million worth of cryptocurrency from a Russian target. The agent, who worked in the FBI's Boston Division from around 2017 to 2025, allegedly became frustrated with the agency's inability or unwillingness to act against certain cryptocurrency accounts.
According to court documents, Yaroch informed investigators that he had been in possession of the stolen funds since last year and had made up to a dozen transfers totaling just under $1 million. However, agents recovered only $925,426 after searching his home in Ashburn, Virginia.
The FBI affidavit also mentions Yaroch's recent trips to Germany and Portugal, during which he conducted unreported foreign travel on at least two occasions. The agent claimed that he had no plans to transfer any of the money to Portugal.
