FBI Arrests Florida Man Over $220k Crypto-Stealing Malware Scheme on Steam
A 21-year-old Florida man has been arrested by the FBI for his alleged role in a malware scheme that stole around $220,000 in cryptocurrency from Steam users.
The scheme, which ran for nearly two years, involved distributing infected video games through Steam and compromising victims' computers to steal saved passwords.
According to investigators, the group promoted the infected games through social media and used automated bots to target users believed to own significant cryptocurrency holdings.
The malware allegedly stole Bitcoin after it was used to purchase gift cards that paid for services such as Uber Eats, helping identify the suspect.
