FBI Cracks Down on Hamas Crypto Fundraising Network
FBI agents have disrupted a Hamas online fundraising and recruitment network, seizing over $560,000 in cryptocurrency and taking control of servers and domains used by the terrorist group's military wing.
The operation was carried out through a series of five court-authorized actions, with the first seizure announced publicly in March 2025 involving approximately $201,400. Newly released court documents reveal the broader scope of an investigation that continued after Hamas operators realized some of their wallets had been frozen and changed tactics.
The investigation began after human sources identified a Telegram message directing supporters to contact an Al Qassam Brigades email address for donation instructions. According to FBI affidavits, donors were advised not to disclose who was receiving the money, to use fictitious recipient details, and to avoid sending funds directly from Binance accounts.
The effort to create disposable donation routes left a trail, with cyber investigators finding that many of the wallets received the TRX cryptocurrency needed to pay transaction fees from the same source. Funds from individual addresses also flowed into what the FBI identified as the same operational Al Qassam Brigades wallet.
