FBI Cracks Down on Hamas Crypto Fundraising with $560K Seizure
The FBI has made significant strides in disrupting Hamas' fundraising efforts by seizing over $560,000 in cryptocurrency and taking control of its online infrastructure. The operation involved five enforcement actions between March 2025 and August 2026, with three crypto seizure warrants executed in 2025. In the initial seizure, investigators recovered approximately $200,000 in stablecoins.
As the fundraising network adapted to evade detection, it began using single-use donation addresses and cross-chain bridges. However, blockchain tracking allowed investigators to connect new addresses with previously identified operational wallets, ultimately freezing an estimated 11% of identified illicit volume during 2025.
The FBI's control of Hamas' websites and servers has also enabled the interception of intended donations and collection of information on thousands of individuals who attempted to donate. The investigation continues, with authorities using the seized infrastructure to identify further counterterrorism leads.
