FBI Director Patel Bridges US-China-Russia Gap on Transnational Crime

FBI Director Kash Patel has been building bridges between US law enforcement and two of America's most complex geopolitical counterparts, China and Russia. His outreach efforts on transnational crime represent a significant shift in how the Bureau approaches international cooperation.

Patel made his first official trip to Beijing in November 2025, marking the first time an FBI Director had set foot in China since 2016. This visit followed a summit between President Trump and President Xi Jinping held in South Korea on October 30, 2025, which set the stage for deeper cooperation on fentanyl trafficking and cross-border crime.

The relationship with China deepened further in July 2026 when Patel met with Wang Xiaohong, China's Minister of Public Security. The discussions focused on combating narcotics trafficking and protecting children against exploitation.

Patel is planning a visit to Russia for mid-October 2026, but no new agreements have been confirmed stemming from his interactions with Russian officials.
