FBI Seizes $560K in Crypto Allegedly Meant for Hamas
The US Department of Justice has seized $560,000 in cryptocurrency allegedly destined for Hamas. The funds were being solicited via virtual currency and a Telegram post that requested contributions to an email address associated with the Qassam Brigades.
A confidential source within the US alerted law enforcement to the suspicious activity, which led to the identification of a financing network soliciting donations to Hamas. FBI officials made this major investigative break last year.
According to U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Ferris Pirro, 'A message to Hamas: We will stop your fundraising for terror.' She warned that 'Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated.'
