A Georgia man lost over $164,000 to what appeared to be a cryptocurrency investment scam after meeting a woman on Facebook. The FBI was able to trace part of the cryptocurrency and seized approximately 0.28 Bitcoin valued at around $18,200.

The victim, from Unadilla in Dooly County, met the woman on Facebook in June 2025 and developed an online romance with her. She then convinced him to invest in what he believed was a legitimate cryptocurrency trading opportunity.

Prosecutors say this is a classic case of 'pig butchering' or relationship investment scam, where the perpetrator cultivates a romantic relationship before convincing the victim to send money into a fake cryptocurrency scheme.
