FBI Supervisor Charged with Transferring Millions in Crypto Linked to Russia

A high-ranking FBI official has been charged with transferring nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from accounts linked to a foreign adversary into his personal wallet. Patrick Yaroch, an FBI supervisor detailed to the U.S. intelligence community, faces federal charges including interstate transportation of stolen goods and receipt of stolen goods.

The alleged misconduct occurred after Yaroch expressed frustration over the FBI's inability to disrupt cryptocurrency used by Russia, which he believed was a significant failure on his part. In a confession, Yaroch admitted to accessing FBI systems to retrieve keys necessary for transferring funds from cryptocurrency wallets to his personal account.

A search of his home and voluntary discussion with investigators resulted in the surrender of his FBI credentials and details about his cryptocurrency wallets. A U.S. Magistrate Judge has ordered Yaroch's temporary detention, with a hearing scheduled for the following day.
