FCA Considers Exempting Tokenized Gold From UK Fund Regulations
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is considering exempting tokenized gold from existing fund regulations. The FCA, along with the Treasury and the Bank of England, is reviewing a separate regulatory framework tailored to tokenized gold and other tokenized commodities.
According to the FCA, they could discuss exemption provisions with the Treasury for some tokenized gold products and gold-market infrastructure from rules governing collective investment schemes and alternative investment funds.
The review aims to determine whether the current regulatory framework remains appropriate for the gold market. John Llewellyn, the FCA's head of infrastructure and exchanges, mentioned that this is an ongoing process.
