Fear Trade Indicator Fails Market Sentiment Test
The Fear Trade indicator, which measures market sentiment through stablecoin inflows and other metrics, stopped working partway through the first half of this year, according to a report by SimpleSwap.
The report analyzed 26 weeks of swap data from January to June and found that while the market initially reacted strongly to bad news in February, the correlation between weekly net stablecoin flow and Bitcoin's price level broke down in June.
This means that investors may need to rethink their reliance on the Fear Trade indicator, which has been a widely used gauge of market sentiment. Instead, analysts suggest treating it as a half-life measure, where its effectiveness fades after each repetition at the same depth.
