Fed and CLARITY Vote Take Center Stage in Cryptocurrency Market
The cryptocurrency market is bracing itself for a significant week ahead, with two major events set to impact prices.
The first is the Federal Reserve's (Fed) decision on Wednesday, which will determine whether to raise interest rates or maintain the current level. The Fed has strengthened its case for tighter policy due to recent economic data, including August employment numbers showing a triple-expected 162,000 jobs added and annual producer inflation accelerating to 5.4%. Last Friday's Consumer Price Index (CPI) report also confirmed headline inflation at 3.4%, with monthly core CPI slightly hotter than expected.
This shift has already been reflected in the market, with Bitcoin dropping from $82,400 to under $80,000 as of now. Investors will closely watch Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's press conference for clues on whether this rate hike is a one-off adjustment or the start of another tightening cycle.
The second major event is the Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act scheduled for Tuesday. The bill aims to establish a comprehensive US crypto market structure and clarify the roles of the SEC and CFTC. Republicans have released an updated text, adding new rules for non-decentralized DeFi protocols and clarifying how credit unions can deal in crypto.
