Fed Rate Decision Looms Large Over Bitcoin Market
The Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on July 29 has market participants divided over its impact on Bitcoin and other assets.
A combination of geopolitical tensions and persistent inflation pressures has led to a reshaping of expectations for Fed policy, with the possibility of further rate hikes back on the table. The US 2-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.3% last week, with the CME Group's FedWatch Tool currently seeing a 31% chance of a hike this week and a 50% chance at the September meeting.
The ongoing developments in the Middle East have introduced volatility into the macroeconomic outlook, even as PPI inflation data released earlier in the month came in below expectations. Trading resource Mosaic Asset Company noted that the 30-year Treasury yield is testing a key breakout level again, which could add to pressure on Fed chair Kevin Warsh.
The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index on Thursday will provide fresh signals over the impact of US-Iran tensions on inflation trends. The June print of the PCE index sits at three-year highs, with markets expecting a moderate decrease compared to May's 4.1% year-on-year tally.
