Fed Rate Pause Sinks Bitcoin Toward Critical $55,000 Support Zone
The Federal Reserve's decision to pause interest rate cuts has put pressure on Bitcoin's price, causing it to slide 5% over 24 hours and hover above $70,000.
This move follows Fed Chair Jerome Powell's signal that interest rate cuts are off the table for the remainder of 2026. The central bank also raised its inflation forecast for the year to 2.7%, up from a previous projection of 2.4%.
Rising energy costs are complicating the fight against inflation, which is now the predominant focus, according to Powell. He emphasized that the Fed must deliver price stability and noted that current financial conditions are not restrictive.
The hawkish stance creates pressure on speculative assets like Bitcoin, which has historically traded in lockstep with high-growth tech stocks and is sensitive to changes in Treasury yields.
