Fed's Inflation Gauge Declines, Bitcoin Holds Steady at $58k-$63k
The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE), has declined for the first time in six years. The metric fell from 3.4% in May to 3.3% in June 2026.
This small decrease is significant in the context of the Fed's ongoing battle against inflation. Bitcoin, however, showed little reaction to the news. Prices remained within a narrow range of $58,000 to $63,000 without any major volatility spikes or significant liquidation events.
The PCE number is essentially a filtered inflation reading that strips out food and energy prices, focusing on the underlying trend in consumer spending. The last time core PCE declined was six years ago, making this month's reading a statistical event with potential policy implications.
